1 December to 6 January

Christmas on the street

Snow on the roofs, lights on the houses and the Yule Lads out in Geyser Valley. It's already in the game: open Bubble Dare from 1 December and the season is there, with no update to download.

What the season brings

  • Snow that tells you something

Snow settles on the dead power lines and melts off the live ones, so you can see which wires to keep away from.

  • Every world dressed for it

Wreaths and snowmen in the suburb, a tree in the downtown square and a busker in a Santa hat, lights wound round the desert's cacti and a lit tree riding the bubble train.

  • The thirteen Yule Lads

Geyser Valley is the game's Icelandic world. Its Yule Lads come down from the mountains one night at a time and peek out from behind the lava rocks. After dark the Yule Cat sits on the ridge.

  • Five Christmas dailies

Special daily challenges for Midwinter, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Each is one street, the same for every player in the world, with its own twist.

Not everyone celebrates the same days, so the seasonal looks can be switched off in Settings.

Thirteen nights in, thirteen nights out

In Iceland the thirteen Yule Lads come to town one at a time in the nights before Christmas, and go home one at a time after it. The game keeps the same calendar. Each dot is a Yule Lad in Geyser Valley that day; a gold bauble marks a Christmas daily.

  • 21 DecMidwinterThe longest night: the run starts at dusk.
  • 24–26 DecChristmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing DayGold bubbles everywhere, hung like baubles.
  • 1 JanNew YearA night run under the new year's sky. Pearls count twice.

A day in the game starts at midnight UTC, the same moment for every player.

About the game

Bubble Dare is a one-tap flying game. You're a little bird that can't stop flying, and you pop soap bubbles for energy. When a swirl bubble swallows you, it becomes a dare: the longer you stay inside, the bigger the reward, if you can tap your way out before the air runs out.

It's made by one developer in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, with the open-source Godot engine. Every bird, bubble and snowflake is drawn in code. The Christmas season ends on 6 January, Þrettándinn, the thirteenth day of Christmas in Iceland, when the last Yule Lad goes home.
